ATI Video Cards

on OldWorld Macs

There are a few issues that ATI's line of graphics cards have with OldWorld Macs. This page will serve as a posting board for users to help other users with problems that they might have.

Mach64:

-(Kurt 11/29/02) Here's something I discovered for Legacy machine owners who must use the Apple/ATI Mach64 video card for awhile. Using the composite ATI drivers slows down the Mach64 to about 1/2 speed. I switched back to the "last Mach 64 only" drivers about three weeks ago and the improvement is very noticeable. Everything seems compatible. The "last Mach 64 only" drivers can be found in the System 8 (not 8.1!) installer Tome. For those who don't have a System 8 installer CD, the same
files are in Tome1 in the System 7.6.1 Update available here.

To transition, I copied the October02/9.2.2 ATI files to a folder outside the System Folder and dropped the six "last Mach64 only" files on the System Folder. The ATI MPEG Accelerator and ATI YUV Accelerator do not show up in the Extensions Manager but I think they load. Hope this can help some. I get 25-30 fps in iTunes G-Force visual plug-in with the "last Mach64 only" drivers compared to 14 fps, max. with composite.
